On June 22, 2010, mining equipment supplier Bucyrus International announced that it would move its headquarters and personnel from South Milwaukee to the Midwest and move its headquarters to Oak Creek, Wisconsin, and its operations to the Midwest of Wisconsin. Buyout International, a mining equipment manufacturer, has a large administrative operation in Oak Creek. This operation includes operations in the city of Kinnikennick and a number of other companies in and around the city. On July 1, 2006, the southern part of the city lake was separated and became the "City of Oak Creek" and a new town called "Kinnikennaick," which includes the old city park and the former grounds of the Lake County Courthouse. The city was incorporated into Wisconsin's municipal law (also known as the Oak Creek Law) on July 2, 2007.

Later, Heritage Week was planned in South Milwaukee with special dinners, events and parades that were to take place in the last week of July each year. In the 1960s, a new building was needed for the children of the baby boom generation, but it was not built until the late 1970s and early 1980s. A new high school was soon needed, and in the 1990s the new South Milwaukee High School was built for 500 students.

While the owners listened to live music, dogs dove in and out of the building with their owners and pets - related traders in tow.

The Milwaukee County Transit System operates public bus lines to connect the city, and 12 local draught beers were drunk for a change. Double Platinum played music events throughout the area and Black Label DJs were hired for the event.

There are few private schools in the city, most of which are religious - on campus, but there are a number of public schools, such as Oak Creek High School and the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee.

On the nursing campus of Oak Creek, there are two houses in the immediate vicinity, which are equipped with sound systems, secured courtyards, footpaths and screened porches. Oak Creek offers a variety of options, including private and public schools, as well as a number of parks and recreational facilities. The neighborhood features a wide range of amenities including public and private parks, playgrounds, outdoor recreation areas, bike paths and bike lanes, a communal garden and much more.
